Use The Right Wire

One of things that I run into all the time is exposed NMB wire. NMB is not rated for exposed installation.
An exposed location is anywhere current carrying wire might be subject to physical or environmental damage.
This is NMB

I also often see UF-B wire installed in exposed areas. UF-B is often referred to as bury wire because it is rated to be run underground but not exposed.

These types of wire are not suitable for exposed locations because the sheathing is vulnerable to UV from sunlight which can break down the plastic and lead to electrical shorts which can be a fire hazard. And while UF is rated for wet locations because of its relatively heavier sheathing, NMB is vulnerable to moisture and temperature variations.
In exposed locations conduit of the correct size and type needs to be used to maintain electrical safety.
There are many types of electrical conduit. To make sure the correct type is used for your application contact a qualified electrician such as Rapid River Electric.
